Take a look at our latest video’s, the carpet in question had just previousley been cleaned by another local firm using a truckmount hot water deep extraction method with very hot water and high water pressure. The client was told they had received Devon’s premier carpet cleaning service !

Just days later Masterclean ® were called to re-clean because the client was unhappy with the results, both the client and ourselves were astonished at the amount of filth left behind.

Masterclean ® used our controlled low moisture technique for cleaner, fresher and drier carpets, the client in question now has beautifully clean and sanitised carpets.

Another essential update from a client visited only last week, thank you for the glowing recommendation Mrs. Greenaway and many thanks for your permission to quote you on your previous carpet cleaning experience.

Mrs. Greenaway Carpet Cleaning Exeter 12/8/2010.

Masterclean has such nice, happy staff. My husband and i are so pleased, our curtains look lovely and smell so fresh.

The carpets cleaned on my hall stairs and landing look beautiful.

I did mention and show your technicians before they left my lounge carpet cleaned 2 years ago by another very local to me carpet cleaning company who boasted membership of the NCCA and other organisations.

On completion of the work carried out by this so called expert and NCCA member he said my polypropylene carpets were the best carpets to clean. I told him ” excuse me they are not polypropylene carpets but 80/20 wool mix”, at which point he said, I’ve cleaned them as polypropylene, never mind, they should be ok !!!

However they have never been the same since and he is responsible for damaging them, since cleaning them the pile of the lounge carpet appears flat and dry, it was all a very disappointing and expensive episode.

He (the so called NCCA trained carpet cleaning company) also cleaned my neighbours and my friends carpets as well, they too are very unhappy with the man and the service he supplied to us, it was quite obvious he did not have a clue what he was doing.

They too are extremely unhappy with him and none of us will ever let him back in our houses ever again neither will we be recommending his services to anyone else.

I am most appreciative to Masterclean for offering to attempt to rectify the damage done to my carpet by him and look forward to seeing your technicians once again.

I would not hesitate in recommending Masterclean your company and technicians to anyone in the future because they were obviousely extremely experienced and very professional in everything they did explaining everything thoroughly to me so i understood exactly what was happening and why.

My husband and I have been very impressed and commend your technicians for their hard efforts and wonderful workmanship, your office staff were excellent.

Finally i must say your technicians were an absolute pleasure to have in our home and such very nice friendly people. Thank you.

We appreciate it Mrs. Cafaro and look forward to seeing you again soon. Lets see if Mr. Smith chooses to copy this article like he did the last one, as you so kindly pointed out to us, thanks again Mrs. Cafaro you are obviously just as aware as we are as to the childish yet illegal theft of Masterclean ® website and blog content.

We can assure you Mrs Cafaro that all his plagiarism and copying has been noted, logged and saved for some time! And yes we do agree with you, he should not be allowed to get away with it, we are working on that Mrs. Cafaro, so check back from time to time.

Masterclean ® Carpet Cleaning Exeter Devon Break All Records Despite Recession! http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2010/08/01/masterclean-%c2%ae-carpet-cleaning-exeter-devon-break-all-records-despite-recession/ http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2010/08/01/masterclean-%c2%ae-carpet-cleaning-exeter-devon-break-all-records-despite-recession/#comments Sun, 01 Aug 2010 19:51:49 +0000 Administrator http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/?p=111 Protected by Copyscape Online Plagiarism Detection

Hello to all and a quick update as to what has been going on recently behind the scenes.

We have been tremendously busy over the past 6 months or so since christmas, working long into the night on occasions. Our figures are incredible to date, beating all previous years, we will see what occurs during the latter half of the year as to how business is effected. But our extreme thanks goes out to everyone for their ongoing bookings and support, we really do appreciate it aswell as all your wonderful upholstery and carpet cleaning recommendations.

A few terrible disasters have been observed recently also, one in particular springs to mind. Two completely ruined silk rugs, damaged by some local cleaning company, they were in fact window cleaners who claimed to the customer that they clean many silk rugs on their travels.

Well if thats the case i guess we will be hearing from some more customers and insurance companies shortly. Please beware, rug cleaning in Devon or anywhere for that matter is a very specialised field of which many claim to be experts in, unfortunately on this occasion things went wrong, and there was nothing we could do for the customer apart from liase with her insurers.

Another awful mistake ended not quite so terribly, the client involved just had to deal with soaking wet carpets for 3 days. These proclaimed experts were carpet cleaning association members, so shame on them.

Irritating but after turbo dryers were put in place the situation was soon under control. We have recently seen videos on the internet of companies cleaning carpets, and all we can say is they are literally jet washing the carpet!!!

Far too much water, far too much heat, no matter how much suction they have. No matter how excellent they tell you they are and how appropriate they tell you their cleaning methods are, trust us, it’s total rubbish.

Why use a 10 foot plank to break an ants back!!! ( You know what i mean ?) of course you do. Have a little finesse for goodness sake, and treat customers furnishings and carpets with a little respect and care.

Why would we blast a carpet with over 500 psi of water pressure, and 90 degrees of heat and steam, when it doesnt require even half that to get it really clean. Why would we use 100 litres of water when we can do the same job with less than half that.

Quite simply we wouldn’t, because we know what we are doing and we know it is both unneccesary and damaging.

We must also take this opportunity to wish the family of Mrs. Pribergs of Exeter our deepest condolancies on her passing. A lovely and very talented Lady. She will be missed by all the staff. Especially Spencer who always called to clean her carpets.

On a more positive note, all Masterclean ® technicians have had their equipment updated for the 3rd time in 3 years! New machines and tools have been manufactured for Masterclean ® to bring you the very best in upholstery and carpet cleaning in Devon, Dorset and Somerset. Cleaner, Fresher, Drier carpets, we guarantee it.

That’s it for now, we will try to update again shortly.

Kindest Regards.

CLEANER, DRIER, FRESHER CARPET AND FURNISHINGS, GUARANTEED!

M.Smith Cleaning Service Exeter….EXPOSED!!! Martins Cleaning Service Takes Masterclean’s Bait. http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2010/05/29/m-smith-cleaning-service-exeter-exposed-martins-cleaning-service-takes-mastercleans-bait/ http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2010/05/29/m-smith-cleaning-service-exeter-exposed-martins-cleaning-service-takes-mastercleans-bait/#comments Sat, 29 May 2010 20:03:09 +0000 Administrator http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/?p=102 I would like to begin this blog entry by thanking all of our previous, present and new customers for their ongoing support to Masterclean®. I am eternally grateful for your loyalty to Masterclean®, for your continued bookings and year upon year backing in our efforts to bring you the best and most highly recommended carpet, rug, upholstery and curtain cleaning service available, knowing we continuously grow busier despite recession every year.

Previous readers of these pages will be aware of the ongoing ludicrous situation the above named individual continues to create. All new readers of these pages should refer to past articles especially the article directly prior to this one, in order to gain an understanding of the content of this posting.

I have previously explained the position on our understanding of carpet cleaning associations and trading standard schemes for all to see and understandably this honest insider view has ruffled the feathers of a few, namely the above mentioned.

As the managing director of Masterclean® I have, during recent times, frequently been informed of the behaviour of M. Smith (Proprietor of Martins Cleaning Service Exeter) by members of my staff, including the creators of our numerous websites especially the website “owned” as company property belonging to Masterclean® covering amongst others, Devon and Exeter districts.

It is blatantly obvious to me and everyone else that this individual over a long period of time, has become totally obsessed with cherry picking and reproducing files, text and marketing ideas from Masterclean®’s websites and regularly adding them to his own in order to gain commercial advantage from us as a company. However, having been involved with and grown such a successful and exceptional business as Masterclean® for a period of 30 years, has taught me to always be numerous steps ahead of the game. The first step being the realisation that success does not come from riding on the backs of others. The second being, be original in thought, i.e. do not steal marketing ideas from other business competitors.

At the turn of 2010, having been made aware of M. Smith’s continuous avaricious actions, I set about a plan to expose him for his true worth. His constant daily cherry picking at Masterclean®’s websites proves to me his illegal intent is to obtain (lay claim to) in any way possible Masterclean®’s website marketing content, in order to not only damage Masterclean® but also to confuse Devon consumers in an attempt to further his one man band enterprise at our expense, including that of our employees and registered trademark. He does so at his peril, risking prosecution and embarrassing himself, damaging only his own trade by sending customers flocking to us in their droves. Giving me so many reasons years ago to sack him is the one thing I can thank him for.

To expose M. Smith for the copycat he truly is, I created bait for him to bite at. The bait came in the form of Masterclean®’s association with certain business individuals and companies of high repute, I knew would make his toes curl in envy to read on the pages of Masterclean®’s sites and was sure he would wish to emulate.

Our association with Exeter City Football Club is an association Masterclean® are extremely proud of and there will always be a long standing mutual promotional relationship between ourselves and the club for many years to come. This association involves a scheme called the “Red and White Card” and the sponsorship between many of Devon’s reputable and highly successful businesses, plus supporting the club at grass roots level, noting the Red and White Card distribution membership support throughout the county is restricted to one of a type businesses. Exeter City Football Club is also a business owned and run by its thousands of supporters. This progress is a wonderful achievement and Masterclean® regard everybody at the club and the club itself, including all members of the Red and White Card scheme and other businesses involved, friends of Masterclean® working together to promote Exeter’s amazing football club, and rightly so.

Within hours of our initial association with the club being completed, being the cherry picker he is, M. Smith was on the phone to the club demanding inclusion into the scheme. I however, pre-empted his inevitable approach by informing the club of our problems with him and his inclusion was refused thwarting yet another attempt to upset myself and everybody involved within the Masterclean® ranks who deal with the Red and White Card scheme. Thanks to the integrity of Exeter City Football Club and the good will that exists within our relationship, he has not been permitted to pursue his self interest demands.

A few months down the line he then began illegitimately and illegally advertising membership and discounts via the Red and White Card without permission making a mockery of Exeter City Football Club’s scheme and his exclusion from it. Exeter City Football Club demanded he remove all reference to their scheme from his site but this request has been ignored by him creating his own Red and White Card, attempting to jeopardise Exeter City Football Club’s promotional efforts with his fictitious association to it. I would add that no matter what M. Smith attempts in future to sabotage Masterclean®’s relationship with Exeter City Football Club, I will never withdraw Masterclean®’s sponsorship and support. Exeter City Football Club have afforded Masterclean® the utmost respect and integrity which is much appreciated.

The next carrot I dangled for M. Smith was a possible association with the Lealta Benefits Card, an organisation I knew anyone could find online and easily apply for. I thought this would appeal to him being there are many household names like Masterclean® attached to this scheme. With no business advantage to ourselves, I calculated there was no risk to Masterclean® to entice M. Smith to once again copy a Masterclean® marketing strategy, having no significant effect were he to bite the bait and steal it from Masterclean®’s website.

As predicted M. Smith within days of Masterclean®’s association with Lealta appearing on our websites had sought membership and published so on his own site. At this point I would confirm I have now cancelled all dealings with the Lealta Benefits Card which was only negotiated for the purpose of proving to unsuspecting Devon consumers the kind of individual they would be dealing with if they contacted him, noting in addition to the plagiarism already described he has now decided to steal our price beater logo which has appeared on our websites for over 5 years. M. Smith is further guilty of copying whole swathes of script from our website advertising for inclusion in his website. Obviously prepared to steal anything he feels will be of benefit to him.

A far more serious development is M. Smith’s criminal decision to infringe Masterclean®’s Registered Trademark by including within his web page intitled “Meet The Team” he claims his staff have “Mastered The Art Of Clean” and that his organisation is a “Master Of Clean” in yet another pathetic effort to pass himself off to consumers either as a Masterclean® associate or even as Masterclean® itself. Apparently M. Smith knows nothing whatsoever about the sanctity of Trademarks and I would inform him that the Masterclean® Trademark had to be earned and certainly he could never qualify. I would also inform him the illegal use of the Masterclean® Trademark is a criminal offence subject to prosecution. This infringement will not be tolerated and legal action will follow should it not be removed from his web pages immediately.

Knowing “Masterclean®’s Registered Trademark is the Intellectual Property of my company, and that any infringement is a criminal offence subject to the claim of “Passing Off” which in turn means taking advantage of, M. Smith should acquaint himself with the 1994 Trademark Act, particularly the following sections covering Infringement Of Trademarks!!! Noting the function of a trademark is to act as a badge of origin for the goods and services being sold under the mark. To be Registered as a Trademark, there are various requirements that a sign must fulfill before it is allowed to be Registered. For example, a trademark must be capable of distinguishing. Once registered, a Trademark gives the owner a negative right. This means it allows its owner to stop other people using the mark in such a way that would amount to infringement of the mark. Infringement is strictly defined. There are three main types of infringement defined in the 1994 Trademark Act and I quote:-

Section 10 (1) A person infringes a Registered Trademark if he uses in the course of a trade a sign which is identical with the Trademark in relation to the goods and services which are identical with those for which it is Registered.

Section 10 (2) A person infringes a Registered Trademark if he uses in the course of trade a sign where because:

(a) the sign in identical with the Trademark and is used in relation to goods and services similar to those for which the Trademark is Registered, or,

(b) the sign is “similar” to the Trademark and is used in relation to goods and services identical with or similar to those goods for which the Trademark is Registered, and there exists a likelihood of confusion on the part of the public which includes the likelihood of association with the Trademark.

Section 10 (3) A person infringes a Registered Trademark if he uses in the course of trade a sign which is identical with or similar to the Trademark and is used in relation to goods and services which are “not” similar to those for which the Trademark is Registered, where the Trademark has a reputation in the United Kingdom and the use of the sign being without due course takes unfair advantage or is detrimental to the distinctive character or repute of the Trademark.
In summing up, every variation is covered.

Masterclean® have a wide and excellent reputation throughout large sections of the United Kingdom and anyone such as M. Smith lacking similar expertise, knowledge, craftsmenship or standards, have no rights whatsoever to “pass themselves off” as us, pretending via the use of our name, to be associated with Masterclean® as a company. Taking unfair advantage in order to profit from our endeavours, by using our name (variant or otherwise), is without doubt detrimental to the distinctive character and repute of Masterclean®’s Registered Trademark and such actions are unacceptable as are the theft of text or any other detail included in our websites or marketing literature as mentioned here.

This supposed professional carpet and upholstery cleaning specialist boasts membership of the NCCA (National Carpet Cleaners Association) whose motto is “Service With Integrity”. I would like M. Smith to explain where the integrity in his actions and attitude are, considering his criminal and outlandish attempts to undermine my company and confuse the public. I am certain the NCCA would be very interested and dismayed to hear of his adopted conduct. Whilst contemplating the above, perhaps he could further put his mind to the question to be asked by many, are his the actions of an honest, honorable individual perported to be the managing director of a reputable, trustworthy business? The answer is NO!! Moreover, the fact is that M. Smith has transferred so much of Masterclean®’s advertising content from our websites to his, we are expecting him shortly to commence helping himself to Masterclean®’s many thousands of genuine recommendations simply as a top up when there is nothing left for him to steal.

I believe The Devon Trading Standards “Buy With Confidence” scheme to be a worthy project if only properly and rigorously policed. Their mission and purpose is to promote the highest standards in the county of Devon, by which their members must undertake at all times to operate their businesses in a legal, honest and fair manner. They would also I am sure, be very concerned to be informed of the misuse of their own logo and efforts to provide Devon consumers a safe and honest place to purchase. M. Smith’s attitude most certainly does not equal the phrase “Buy With Confidence”. M. Smith’s actions towards Masterclean® are nothing but illegal, dishonest, and to be quite frank unbusinesslike and deserving of contempt, and are likely to become a severe embarrassment to him, staining the reputation of the organisations he claims to be a member of ruining their reputations along with the well intentioned “Buy With Confidence” Devon Trading Standards scheme.

I make reference and stand by all of Masterclean®’s previous postings regarding M. Smith and others, promising to continually expose wrong doing and dishonesty within my industry, whether to Masterclean® or otherwise for as long as we continue trading. We as a company are regularly called upon to inspect and rectify many serious disasters, poor workmanship and terrible customer service including dishonesty, all of which will be reported in detail as always when they happen.

In the meantime, thank you once again for making Masterclean® Devon’s best and most highly recommended carpet, rug, upholstery and curtain cleaning specialists and we look forward to being of service to you wherever and whenever required.

Copies of this document will be forwarded to Devon Trading Standards, The Devon Trading Standards “Buy With Confidence” Scheme, The National Carpet Cleaners Association and Exeter City Football Club.

Regards from all at Masterclean®

The best and most highly recommended carpet and upholstery cleaning devon.

Cheap, Copy Cat Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning In Exeter & Devon……Do Not Be Fooled, Beware!!! http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2009/10/17/carpet-cleaning-devon-everyone-is-an-expert/ http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2009/10/17/carpet-cleaning-devon-everyone-is-an-expert/#comments Sat, 17 Oct 2009 09:34:44 +0000 Administrator http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/?p=45 Hello again to all followers of this blog, and we apologise for not adding any content for a while. We have been so busy it has just been impossible to create the time to write our thoughts down for you.

As always, we aim to bring you what we consider important consumer news, our mission is to protect you the consumer from poor workmanship, lack of experience and false claims which appear to be commom place on the internet these days.

We tell you how it really is, the truth and nothing but. Unfortunately this upsets some people along the way, but as Exeter and Devon’s most highly recomended upholstery and carpet cleaning company, a company you have decided to keep in business for 30 years we will continue to expose these characters whether they like it or not!

From our stand point, this situation has become intolerable, and from the feedback we get from clients they seem to be very switched on to the plagiarism being carried out on a daily basis by these self proclaimed professionals. They can be found boasting membership of guilds and associations, trade bodies and the like, that in reality mean very little to the unsuspecting consumer. However as long as we can save one more customer from a bad experience, we will continue to bring you the truth.

Much has happened over the summer months, including the launch of our new Carpet Cleaning Devon website, we hope you find this useful.

We also notice the same old suspects trying to pedal their cheaper option carpet and upholstery cleaning. One of these being in Exeter now promoting a new truck mount carpet cleaning system, nothing new about this, lets hope they know how to use it properly! If they think a truck mount qualifies them to refer to themselves as the best carpet cleaning available in Devon then they are totally delusional.

‘They’, we will refer to them only as, ‘Mar***s Cleaning Services of Exeter find it necessary to constantly steal the wording from our websites and business literature, sometimes within hours we find offers and wording from our site appear on their site. Sometimes complete sentences, paragraphs of text and even video footage has been stolen from our sites in a pathetic attempt to gain some work.

However, we know our customers are far too intelligent to fall for this rubbish, and each time we see their duplicate content and plagiarism,
we know they are one step closer to being banned from search engines and a little closer to a passing off order for blatently trying to confuse the public.

They seem to be incapable of marketing their own business, finding it necessary to constantly try and copy our succesful business model,
( a really big compliment to us, in a way, we suppose, so thanks! )

Although their tactics can be easily seen through by prospective clients and the legal profession alike. They continue with this stratergy, it is obvious why! Jelousy and lack of businness experience. Unfortunately for them, they don’t do any of it very well, they have 25 years of catching up to do!

They continue to blatently tell readers of their website out and out lies, they most certainly have not been established since 1999 and they are certainly not the best carpet cleaning service in Devon.

In fact the proprietor was still working for MASTERCLEAN ® at that point, before he was ‘let go’ because of poor workmanship and endless, intolerable customer complaints.

We also have been made aware that this self proclaimed professional has released a video of his carpet cleaning efforts!

Now we really wanted to leave a direct link here to the said video ( which may have vanished by the time you read this ) no need to ask why!, to allow you to see the chaos and judge for yourselves, unfortunately our managing director thought it inapropriate as unreliable links on our pages may get broken over time.

However should you find this video online, please do not think that all carpet cleaning companies conduct themselves this way.

There are many other dedicated, hard working professional carpet cleaning companies in the south west and south east, doing a great job, so don’t be put off by this video, just choose your carpet and upholstery cleaning professional wisely.

Before viewing please re-title the video in your mind, ‘ HOW TO THOROUGHLY SOAK AN 8 YEAR OLD DOMESTIC CARPET ‘ If the said carpet had been wool, they would have been in real trouble! Truckmount or no truckmount!

We regard this video as yet another pathetic ploy to peddle their cheaper option services for free on the web. Please be careful.

We know from past experience it will only be a matter of time before ‘they’ copy something else from our websites or literature, unfortunatley for them, there are some things ‘they’ will never be able to copy, our cleaning systems, fabulous staff members, thousands of recommendations from real life customers, unrivaled extensive knowledge of our business and territories gained over 3 decades of paid for marketing, unsurpassed hands on specialist experience within our very specialist field, (we don’t clean windows or dust offices), a huge customer base and excellent reputation, across south west and south east england, and a collaboration with some of the most well known and reputable local businesses in the area, to name just a few!

However we wish them luck in their endevours, if they continue trying to compare themselves to Masterclean ®, they are going to need plenty of it!

We find his actions quite amusing and look forward to their next installment!

We have had some alarming reports from a few of their unhappy customers over the years.

The other suspect, based in Kingsbridge, has been seen recently to be promoting his business as the best carpet cleaning Devon has to offer, ex window cleaners who have recently changed their business name completely, confusing if nothing else.

Nothing wrong with changing your business name, but why on earth change a name if its recognised all around Devon as the best carpet cleaning Devon has to offer? We find it ridiculous, so goodness knows how the public must feel!

Use these cheap copy cat cleaners at your peril, they bare no resemblance whatsoever to the service Masterclean ® provide. As usual they try their best to mimmick what we do providing very poor results and a service that falls short of the excellent standards we set.

Please remember low priceing should never be the deciding factor in choosing a carpet and upholstery cleaning company, if they are charging a very low price, be cautious. If you want a high-quality level of service, you must and should expect to pay for it.

With some of the prices we hear of, passed on to us from conversations with clients put off by these low prices, who have booked with us, no wonder they have to offer goodness knows how many other services along side their carpet and upholstery cleaning to make a living, they will clean your office, windows, garden, patio, gutters, floor tiles and goodness knows what else, if they didn’t they would be out of business, and fast.

We specialise in cleaning your carpets and soft furnishings ONLY, and have done for the past 30 years and more. There is not another company with more hands on cleaning experience of carpets and soft furninshings available, we guarantee it.

We have to thank everyone again for their continued repeat custom, and glowing reports and recommendations. We appreciate them all so very much.

Mrs. Pribergs of Exeter Devon insisted on me forwarding her comments to Dianne in our head office only yesterday,

Dianne and your office staff really are exceptional, excellent at their jobs. They are very kind to customers who don’t quite understand how your excellent systems are put to such great effect, extremely knowlegeable and correct in everything they do, a real credit to MASTERCLEAN ®, I am 90 years old, so I know what customer service used to be like, real customer service is something I have not experienced for a long, long time, not until my good friends Mr. and Mrs. Mundy in Exeter recommended me to your superb company, thank you for all your efforts and help.

We thank Mrs Pribergs for her comments, they gave us all a tremondous lift on Friday afternoon, we were all dog tired from the amount of work completed by the end of the day.

And it’s work we wish to talk about as always on this blog. When we say work, carpet and upholstery cleaning and providing the best carpet and upholstery cleaning service in Exeter, Devon, Somerset And Dorset has become more of an addiction over the past 30 years or so!.

After all, it’s what we do, all day and every day to the highest standard possible.

We just don’t know where all the work comes from, don’t get us wrong we really appreciate every single job you book with us no matter how large or small, but my goodness it has been so very busy.

Of course customers in the know and all you avid internet browsers will know, there are many inferior carpet and upholstery cleaning companies available to choose from in Exeter Devon and beyond, so called ‘experts’, constantly trying to put a spanner in the works, to no effect we might add, with their false outlandish claims and down right lies, cheap and nasty websites designed to make a fast buck and prices that are so low they are not only astonishing but wreak of desperation.

It is worth remembering the old saying, ‘You Get What You Pay For’

Or remembering the common law of business,

“There is hardly anything in the world that someone cannot make a little worse and sell a little cheaper, and the people who consider price alone are that person’s lawful prey.

It is unwise to pay too much, but it is also unwise to pay too little.

When you pay too much, you lose a little money, that is all.

When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything because the thing you bought is incapable of doing the thing you bought it to do.

The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot…

It can’t be done.

If you deal with the lowest bidder it is well to add something for the risk you run.

And if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”

John Ruskin, 1819 – 1900 Wrote it.

And We Endorse It!

Maybe as a company we attract a different kind of client? we have always believed our customers are intelligent enough to make the correct choice by themselves, so many of you choose MASTERCLEAN ® already, usually because of our reputation and relationship with the consumer and the way we present ourselves to them, more often than not, through recommendation!

We have been in this business for 30 years and know it and our territories inside out, we realise we are more expensive than some others, but our clients realise they are paying for something better, something a bit special that nobody else offers.

That something can be explained in many ways including many paragraphs of explanation, but all that really needs to be said is every thing we do is aimed at keeping our existing clients happy and gaining their recommendation to create new clients, that is our quality seal of approval, our rubber stamp if you like. This is quite simple to say, but to keep your word and carry this work ethic out over 30 years and more is the hardest thing in the world to do.

We have perfected it but still work extremely hard, harder than any of our clients or so called ‘competitors’ realise to keep our standards higher. Higher than our clients expect and out of reach for the other self proclaimed ‘experts’.

Our unique, special rubber stamp of approval is summed up by one word and a small ® registered trademark symbol, MASTERCLEAN ® , please read on to find out why……..

Our Trademarks are descriptive and laudatory of the services we provide, as a general rule, these types of Trademarks are not entitled to be registered unless they have previously developed a “secondary-meaning” in our market place, meaning that over a long period of time Masterclean ® has developed national public recognition with consumers as a particular source of excellence in upholstery and carpet cleaning services.

We rigourously regulate ourselves, and our Trademarks are under constant scrutiny from the general public, many thousands of whom are our customers. If we were not as good as we say we are, it would have been impossible to obtain and maintain our Masterclean ® Trademark. It takes an incredible amount of time, money and effort to gain the ® Registered Trademark symbol this way.

Masterclean ® means exactly what the name suggests!

You will find many who try to copy what we do, the words we use, and the way we do things, falling short of the very high standards we have set, this is normal in business, however, as a Masterclean ® customer you can be assured you have made the right choice and a very wise choice.

We recommend you keep this in mind when choosing a company to clean your valued furnishings in Exeter Devon and beyond.

Our kindest regards to all, and once again thank you for keeping us so busy.

Carpet Cleaning In Somerset. Cleaner, Fresher, Softer Or It’s Free! http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2009/07/12/carpet-cleaning-in-somerset-cleaner-fresher-softer-or-its-free/ http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2009/07/12/carpet-cleaning-in-somerset-cleaner-fresher-softer-or-its-free/#comments Sun, 12 Jul 2009 13:39:44 +0000 Administrator http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2009/07/12/carpet-cleaning-in-somerset-cleaner-fresher-softer-or-its-free/ We recently noticed this ( The Title Of This Article ) as a cleaning companies guarantee to it’s customers in The Somerset area.

We suppose at first glance it looks very good, certainly looks good on the website. And at first glance the unsuspecting consumer could be fooled by it.

But please be cautious about this particular kind of guarantee. The person in question is not really offering you anything, it’s just words. After all you are getting your carpets or upholstery cleaned for that purpose! So they should be cleaner and fresher , they should feel softer, otherwise why clean them if you cannot at least promise your customer this.

What’s more if the the owner operated cleaning firm cannot, at least, promise you that then they should not be in this business and the clean should be free!

We don’t think this kind of guarantee is worth the paper or website it is written on.

When contemplating upholstery and carpet cleaning in Somerset seek out a company with a registered trademark within its field for a 100 % guarantee of the companies expertise.

Try to find as many carpet cleaning recommendations as possible from the firm in question and do not be bamboosled or fooled by videos and cheap talk you may find on the internet and believe us there is plenty of that going on at present.

There seems to be an awful lot of “self proclaimed” experts, with way too much time on their hands, on the internet right now, so please be very careful, it is all too easy to “walk the walk” but you will only find out just how good the guarantee they offer is when the you know what hits the fan!

The best and most honest advise we can offer if you need carpet and upholstery cleaned is this, and we have said this many times before, carpet and upholstery cleaning IS NOT ROCKET SCIENCE, and should not be made to “sound” that difficult. Yes it can be phsically difficult depending on your constitution and yes there are certain rules that must be folowed in order to avoid disaster!

But now we see certain unscrupulous companies in your area are taking advantage of the internet to peddle their services cheaply. Experience is the key. Over the years and through training many technicians to do what we do so well, we have discovered some individuals have a natural flair, others, no matter how hard you push them do not have what it takes to become a dedicated upholstery and carpet cleaner, it really is not as easy as some believe, stamina is just one quality you need, and there are many others required if you wish to call yourself a Master Cleaner!

The first thing you need is customers, happy customers, and it’s these that are so difficult to get..why? because it costs alot of money to get them, that is where the internet comes in, now, these previoulsey hardly heard of cleaners have a way to promote themselves for nothing. Many of them have very, very little in the field experience but have all day long to sit at home and learn how to become an internet marketeer!

It costs them nothing to promote themselves via blogs and u tube, videos and articles. Unfortunately for them we know the truth, we know exactly how long they have been trading, we know how good or bad a job they do. It’s our business to know.

We keep our friends close and any potential competitors, know matter how small the set up is even closer, that is one of the reasons we have been so succesful in this business for so many years.

If you are seeking a guarantee, because an unscrupulous carpet cleaning marketeer makes you believe you must have one or else! then choose a company that is truly highly experienced in what they do. They should have a trademark that describes the services they offer, and the standards they work to, They should have thousands of delighted clients with recommendations to back up what they say throughout many counties of the Uk.

Finally, it should be realised that the owner of such a highly regarded mark would NEVER mislead a consumer, their trademark is awarded to them through rigourous use in the public domain, and without the thousands of happy customers the mark would not be able to exist.

We know of only one that has fulfilled that criterea for over 27 years and continues to do so.

Yes that’s right……MASTERCLEAN ® of Exeter.

The most highly recommended upholstery and carpet cleaning available…Guaranteed.

How To Choose The Right Carpet Cleaner In Somerset, Devon & Dorset! http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2009/07/09/how-to-choose-the-right-carpet-cleaner-in-somerset-devon-dorset/ http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2009/07/09/how-to-choose-the-right-carpet-cleaner-in-somerset-devon-dorset/#comments Thu, 09 Jul 2009 07:49:09 +0000 Administrator http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2009/07/09/how-to-choose-the-right-carpet-cleaner-in-somerset-devon-dorset/ How many times does this subject raise its ugly head, we’ll tell you how often!! Every time a carpet cleaner thinks it will influence a customer into choosing them. We believe the customer to be intelligent enough to know if they are dealing with a reputable company or not.

We see a report from a local owner operator in Somerset trying to make the public believe that booking an appointment over the phone without seeing the job first is like getting a prescription from a doctor without him seeing you first.

Well that is just ridiculous, we hear it time and time again though, as the owner operator believes it gives him some advantage? What this might be, we have no idea!

In 27 years of trading we have only on rare occasions gone to inspect the job before we do it, why? because our cleaners come fully prepared for all situations. Jobs are not priced on how dirty they are, they are priced either on a set price or per square meter etc.

The only jobs that require vetting before hand are commercial jobs, mainly because of building layout, interference with the workings of the business in question etc.

Masterclean ® and many other firms who offer carpet cleaning in Somerset and carpet cleaning In Devon or Dorset operate in the same manner, and have done so for 2 decades and more.

When needing to choose a reputable carpet cleaning professional in Somerset, Devon or Dorset please remember the following passage…..

Do not be fooled by large glossy ads promising the best clean ever or it’s free. These do not necessarily guarantee a
great job. Similarly, professing membership of carpet and fabric cleaning associations, does not mean you always
receive excellent service or proficiency. In fact, some of the worst carpet and fabric cleaning blunders we see in
the field today are committed by members of these associations, who should know better. This is why
Masterclean® choose not to be involved with such organisations.

If you find it difficult to obtain advice and quotation over the telephone for the articles you require cleaning, and your
contact appears negative or unprofessional, then the company you are considering employing could be just that, so
make another choice.

A good cleaning company, irrespective of the job required, should be able to give you a firm price over the
telephone. Personal inspection of the articles requiring cleaning is not necessary in order to quote. Upholstery,
carpets and curtains should always be quoted from set prices (furniture ‘per seat’, carpets & curtains ‘per square
metre’).

The exception to this rule being large commercial premises, needing inspection in order to make an accurate
assessment of exactly what is required.

Expert carpet and upholstery cleaners always arrive fully equipped to cover every circumstance and eventuality,
despite condition or level of soiling.

The phone price quoted should be the price paid, subject to specialist treatments if required, i.e. specialist stain
removal and/or carpet and fabric protection etc., all prices should be quoted inclusive of VAT.

Without doubt, the best cleaning method possible for most fibres and fabrics is ‘water extraction cleaning’,
although dry cleaning has its place for certain water sensitive carpets and materials, low moisture and very low
moisture cleaning such as the Masterclean® DRY system can also be useful in many situations. Every cleaning
operative should be fully equipped for either circumstance, possessing knowledge, expertise and skill, to apply the
correct cleaning method for the job in hand.

Whether truck mounted or portable machines it doesn’t really matter. It is how the cleaning operative uses the tools
and cleaning solutions at his disposal, plus his knowledge, experience, and effort, that results in a good job.
Gimmicky cleaning methods, of which there are many!, promising the world, are exaggerated. They deliver very
little and invariably result in disappointment.

From a customer’s immediate point of contact, they should quickly become aware, the organisation they are
speaking with are professional, knowing their business. Noting that the most expensive quotation does not
necessarily produce the best results, neither does the cheapest.

In summing up it must be said, choosing a proficient carpet and fabric cleaning company to trust with your
furnishings, from the thousands of advertisers available, (one you would be pleased to recall again and again), is
not a simple task. If it looks too good to be true, it probably is! and we can only wish you good luck. In order to take
luck from the equation call Masterclean® now! The UK’s Leading Carpet, Upholstery & Curtain Cleaning Company.

The cheapest…is not always the best!
“It is unwise to pay too much, but it is worse to pay too little.
When you pay too much, all you lose is a little money – that is all.
When you pay too little you sometimes lose everything, because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the
thing it was bought to do.
The common law of business prohibits paying a little, and getting a lot – it can’t be done.
If you deal with the lowest bidder it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that, you will have
enough to pay for something better”.
John Ruskin(1819-1900)wrote it, we endorse it.

If & when you are seeking a Professional Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning Company, firstly find out if they
specialise in just this field. Masterclean® do not clean gutters, driveways, wooden floors, tiled floors, floor tile
grout, roofs, cars, drains, hard floors, patio’s and we certainly don’t clean windows. You have to ask yourself why
these so called carpet & upholstery cleaning specialists need to offer these unrelated services. The answer being, they just are not busy enough from carpet and upholstery cleaning alone, and again you must ask yourself, why? We only clean your carpets, upholstery and soft furnishings, it is what we do, all day, every day, to the highest possible standard, and have done so for the past 20 years and more. Please bear this in mind when you require the best possible service and care for your home’s carpets and furnishings!

Oriental Rug Cleaning In Cleeve, Somerset. http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2009/07/08/oriental-rug-cleaning-in-cleeve-somerset/ http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2009/07/08/oriental-rug-cleaning-in-cleeve-somerset/#comments Wed, 08 Jul 2009 16:25:02 +0000 Administrator http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2009/07/08/oriental-rug-cleaning-in-cleeve-somerset/ I spoke with our man carpet cleaning in Somerset today, he had been sent to a small place called Cleeve in Somerset.

Upon arrival he inspected some oriental rugs that needed to be cleaned, one persian and the others origin was unclear. They had both been treated with with an anti moth treatment, we cannot mention any brand names.

Considering the carpets they were layed on had a terrible moth problem they had remarkably been left totally unharmed.

However as stated before the rest of the room had become a breeding ground, not to mention a feast for the moths. Large pieces of the carpets under the rugs had been affected and large areas around the edge of the rooms.

The lady who owned the rugs asked if we could kill the moths, not as simple as it sounds, not when the problem is so advanced already. Unfortunately the cleaner had to advise carpet replacement as there is no point throwing good money after bad. After all he cannot put back the carpet fibres that had been destroyed!

Any way the rugs have been removed for cleaning at our workshop in Exeter, whilst we have them the client will be replacing the affected carpets.

Can carpets be dry cleaned successfully? http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2009/07/08/can-carpets-be-dry-cleaned-successfully/ http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2009/07/08/can-carpets-be-dry-cleaned-successfully/#comments Wed, 08 Jul 2009 15:53:41 +0000 Administrator http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2009/07/08/can-carpets-be-dry-cleaned-successfully/ The answer to this is a resounding YES, of course they can, depending on the fibre and what method is used. There are a few dry clean systems available and lastly but by no means least, in fact probably the most important factor, WHO actually dry cleans them.

In fact only today, i see from a cleaners work sheet that he dry cleaned 2 of his jobs, and for specific reasons too.

The first job was a lady who called and didnt want any other system of carpet cleaning other than dry, in fact she insisted on it.

The second was a little old lady who coud not have damp carpets at all, because of the trip or slip hazard to her. She is in her 90’s and any kind of slip or fall could be fatal!

Some clients just don’t like the thought of any drying time, or large turbo dryers in their home, so seeking an alternative they go for our dry carpet cleaning system.

So there are alternatives to water extraction carpet cleaning in Devon they just have to be carried out in the correct manner.

The 2 clients concerned were extremely happy with the results and are already booked in for next year!

A Word Of Warning Continued! http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2009/07/08/a-word-of-warning-continued/ http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2009/07/08/a-word-of-warning-continued/#comments Wed, 08 Jul 2009 08:56:33 +0000 Administrator http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2009/07/08/a-word-of-warning-continued/ Well it seems yet again certain parties are paying attention, maybe the website of the owner operator concerned in our previous article is keeping a close eye on everything we do!!!

Or the trust a trader scheme is doing a good job at keeping false claims to a minimum.

If you have read our previous post then you will realise that our prime goal is to protect the consumer whether they use our services or not, as Devon’s most highly recommended and best carpet and upholstery cleaning service we consider it our mission not to allow other carpet cleaners in this area and the other counties we cover mislead the public.

Unfortunately we cannot site every case, as there are just to many to mention, but the more blatent, dishonest occurences will find their way here for sure.

Any way, it turns out after only 1 day of this article being published that the website in question has changed his statement….How Strange!

The website in question now reads “Probably The Best Carpet Cleaning In Devon”, still a lie but not quite so direct, either he read our article or the trading standards have been in touch, maybe both.

As most of you can see by the action taken, the individual in question is trying to be clever, we think it’s just dishonest! and whats more we know the that avearge Devon consumer is just not that naive.

We are also aware that the individual concerned being fair to him, as we always try to be, is “probably” competent at his job, or at least we hope so, but has just bitten off more than he can chew by making such a bold statement.

However, he now complies with trading standards, and has the uneviable task of putting his money where his mouth is.

We already have and still do as always offer the most highly recommended upholstery and carpet cleaning in Devon And Beyond Or Your Money Back, Guaranteed!

Thank you for reading this blog,

A Word Of Warning, Devon Trading Standards, Carpet Cleaning In Devon. http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2009/07/03/a-word-of-warning-devon-trading-standards/ http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2009/07/03/a-word-of-warning-devon-trading-standards/#comments Fri, 03 Jul 2009 18:12:28 +0000 Administrator http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2009/07/03/a-word-of-warning-devon-trading-standards/ Today we were informed by a staff member of a new website supposedly advertising the fact that they are the best carpet cleaning in Devon ( Yes thats right another one ).

Surprisingly though, after browsing to this “individuals” website we found a large trading standards, trust a trader logo, not too far away from the statement “the best carpet cleaning in Devon”

Of course we know this to be a lie. We are also very sure that the trust a trader scheme know nothing of the way their logo is being abused by this individual. Before making such claims when put beside a trading standards logo, you should be very sure that you can substantiate them, we know the owner operator cleaning contractor cannot.

Lets hope the trust a trader soon find out their logo is being abused by him and his claim!

It is a great shame that this should be the case though, don’t you think??

The trading standards logo is their to instill confidence in the consumer, to allow them to make a decision based on facts rather than fiction.

Unfortunately what we found on the website in question is fiction, what we also found which the general public may not know about, after hiring this man because of his trading standards approved status, is that it offers them little or no protection.

How do we know this?, we hear you ask. Well from experience for starters, most associations are the same whichever way you look at them.

But as proof of what we are trying to explain picture the following scenario……

You are looking to have your carpets cleaned, you have 3 companies in your mind but decide to go with the one that is trading standards approved and displays that logo saying they are approved. You do this because being associated with the trading standards instills confidence in you. Nothing wrong with that…Right?…..Wrong?

But would you make the same choice having read this…… and we quote…

“Buy With Confidence

A Word of Warning

The Buy With Confidence Scheme is concerned primarily with the customer service procedures of a business. It should not be considered an assurance of any other aspect of that organisation’s business. The inclusion of a business in the Scheme does not mean that the Trading Standards Service guarantees the quality of the goods or service provided nor can we accept any responsibility for any aspect of the work. We are also unable to guarantee the financial standing of members. The decision to use a particular business rests solely with the consumer.”

Now we have not made this passage up, it is from the Devon County Council website!

We realise the trust a trader organisation probably do not know about this misuse of their scheme, but we also realise that the un-suspecting Devon consumer should be armed with the correct facts before making their decision.

Regards To you All, we hope you are enjoying the hot weather.

If you want real peace of mind call MASTERCLEAN ®, because you won’t find better service and workmanship, we guaranteed it, or your money back, it’s that simple.

Another Almighty Blunder Found In Exeter!!! http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2009/04/08/another-almighty-blunder-found-in-exeter/ http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2009/04/08/another-almighty-blunder-found-in-exeter/#comments Wed, 08 Apr 2009 14:19:26 +0000 Administrator http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2009/04/08/another-almighty-blunder-found-in-exeter/

Today one of our technicians came across a terrible mistake whilst working. On arrival at his first customers house in Exwick, Exeter whilst inspecting the large lounge and hall stairs and landing he had to clean he noticed something sticking out from underneath the legs of a large dining table at the far side of the lounge used as a dining area.

On closer inspection it turned out to be pieces of bright pink coloured plastic bag that had been placed underneath the large block wooden feet of the dining table.

Of course he asked the customer what they were doing there, and recieved the reply that the previous carpet cleaner had put them there to protect the carpet!!!

Now we agree that some furniture needs to have protective pads placed under the feet in order to prevent wood stain marks transfering to the carpet fibres or rust marks appearing from metal feet or metal studs. Some furniture should be raised on Polystyrene blocks to aid drying etc.

But the article of furniture was not wood stained, and it did’nt have metal studs on the feet, in fact the feet were plastic.

So it was completely unecessary to do what he had done. But that is not where this story ends.

The carpet had not been cleaned for over a year, so the dining table with it’s large 4 inch square legs had been standing on the pink plastic bag cut offs for all this time, when our technician lifted the bits of bag, the pink die from the bag had transfered on to the carpet fibres leaving 4 inch square permanent pink patches.

He tried several different ways to remove or at least improve them but with limited success.
Apparantly this job had been carried out by a so called professional from the local area boasting membership of this and that association and posessing cleaning diplomas and the like.

Well if the so called professional is reading this, and recognises the pink bag part of this true story then, SHAME ON YOU, YOU HAVE RUINED A 22 X 16 FEET WHITE WOOL CARPET AND GOT AWAY WITH IT. Of course our client was very upset, but thought that too much time had past for them to complain about the mess.

So, if you are going to get your carpets cleaned make sure the firm you hire uses proper foil backed furniture pads or blocks designed for the job.

Or if you are attempting to clean your own carpets, you could use tin foil doubled over and cut into squares of the appropriate size and place them under the feet of wood stained or metal furniture, although we would prefer you to use the proper items, this will at least prevent a disaster.

But better still, just take the guess work out of it all and call the professionals. The most highly recommeded upholstery and carpet cleaners in Devon And Beyond, Guaranteed!

Misleading Information Or Just a lie… UPDATE! http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2009/04/08/misleading-information-or-just-a-lie-update/ http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2009/04/08/misleading-information-or-just-a-lie-update/#comments Wed, 08 Apr 2009 14:17:25 +0000 Administrator http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2009/04/08/misleading-information-or-just-a-lie-update/ Well, for all of you who read and took in the previous article, since it being published the offending website has changed its advertising and they no longer state they are the ‘best quality carpet and upholstery cleaning service in the south west’.

What we do know is we always have and always will do our very best to protect the prospective client, and hopefully after this latest uncovereing, Devon’s carpet and upholstery owners are that little bit safer.

Misleading information or just a down right lie…You decide? http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2009/03/29/misleading-information-or-just-a-down-right-lie/ http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2009/03/29/misleading-information-or-just-a-down-right-lie/#comments Sun, 29 Mar 2009 19:19:31 +0000 Administrator http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2009/03/29/misleading-information-or-just-a-down-right-lie/ Well to begin with, a very happy belated new year to all our present and future clients, we have all been so busy that we just have not had time to update this area of our site until this weekend.

Thanks to all of you for your advanced bookings, we have had our busiest January, February and March for 19 years. The inclement weather tried it’s very best to throw a spanner in the works, but with all said and done the technicians did a grand job of keeping things going, just as well they all carry a spare everything on board their vans or we would have been in trouble for sure.

Anyway, what we would like to bring to everyone’s attention today is something we have been aware of for some time but now feel it necessary to put the general public in the picture.

Masterclean® has been established for over 20 years and we see competitors come and go, some have disappeared rather quickly, some have stood the test of time, and some have become genuine working collegues of ours.

Recently we see a new kid on the block advertising as the ‘best quality carpet and upholstery cleaning service in the south west’, so after some investigation as to these claims we find that the service in question is a one man and a van operation and only completed his first carpet cleaning job at the beginning of December 2008 and has no upholstery cleaning experience whatsoever! So the advertisement we refer to is misleading at best or is it just a lie in order to give potential clients a false sense of security!

We think it’s an accident waiting to happen. so please BEWARE.

Everyone must start somewhere we here some of you cry, YES we agree, BUT be honest with the customer in order to allow them to make an informed and educated choice!!!

As previousely stated, we really don’t mind healthy, honest competiition, but misleading the Devon public is another thing altogether. For obvious reasons we cannot name names, but there are more than one so called experts trying to fool or lie to the public.

So please, if for whatever reasons you do not come to Masterclean ® for your upholstery and carpet cleaning requirements, make sure you question exactly how much hands on experience the company you are dealing with really have, and once you have done this, question it again.

The Best Clean You Have Ever Seen, Or It’s Free!!! REALLY? http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/08/01/the-best-clean-you-have-ever-seen-or-its-free-really/ http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/08/01/the-best-clean-you-have-ever-seen-or-its-free-really/#comments Fri, 01 Aug 2008 18:43:58 +0000 Administrator http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/08/01/the-best-clean-you-have-ever-seen-or-its-free-really/ If you’ve been searching the internet for a carpet and upholstery cleaning professional you may, and probably have come across the following……

A large glossy looking advertisement or web page etc, with the following words…..

” THE BEST CARPET CLEANING YOU HAVE EVER SEEN OR IT’S FREE ”

or….

” THE MOST THOROUGH CLEANING YOU HAVE EVER SEEN OR IT’S FREE ”

or

“WARNING, DON’T CALL ANY OTHER CARPET CLEANER UNTIL YOU HAVE LISTENED TO THIS FREE 24 HOUR RECORDED MESSAGE, CALL NOW ON FREEPHONE ************”

Many of our clients ask us about this, purely because it seems to them as if every other cleaning company says the same thing.

The recorded message thing, is really just a very sad attempt at scaring the potential customer into using them and nobody else, infact if you can stand the boredom of listening to the complete message, you will be put off carpet and upholstery cleaning altogether, forever, as the message basically says don’t call anyone else but me because everyone else is under qualified and incapable of doing a good job. They are probably members of associations aswell, trying to create a false sense of security to their potential clients. It is of course, total and utter rubbish, and has no place in the carpet and upholstery cleaning world, as far as we are concerned.

Now if you want to know what we think of carpet and upholstery cleaning associations, have a look at the rest of our articles.

They either have this plastered across their websites, or their vehicles, their business literature, in fact anywhere they can find a large enough space.

In fact we get asked about this so often that it deserved a mention here. Now we can just tell our clients to look here, rather than spend 30 minutes explaining it again. We are far too busy cleaning carpets and upholstery to keep stopping to do this!!!

Purely and simply put, it is a marketing system for carpet and upholstery cleaners, why these individuals choose to become part of an ever increasing crowd we just cannot understand, in fact they are losing the one thing that would catapult their business and earning potential, individuality!!!

We are not here to give these people business advise, so we won’t, but for the potential consumer it can become very confusing. For example we can name at least 6 carpet cleaning companies in Devon alone that use this marketing ploy, nevermind the rest of the U.K, they all have different business names, they all cover the same territories and they all use the same marketing, so when you look at their adverts, apart from the name of the company you could easily confuse one for the other!!!

In our eyes and our clients eyes, thats just plain ridiculous, now of course someone is getting rich from this, yes you guessed it, the guy who put together the marketing system and plastered it all over the internet……not the cleaning companies that’s for sure, although they will all tell you how well they are doing, we would love to scrutinise their accounts!

There is so much we could say about these companies, mostly derogatory, and that would mean naming names, and so we will use our discretion as usual. They know who they are, so no need to elaborate. But needless to say, a message from the wise and the most highly recommended upholstery and carpet cleaning service in Devon and beyond…….Rome wasn’t built in a day.

If you want an outstanding business, create your own identity, copying others or using a copy cat system does not work in the long run, your clients will be suspicious of you and you will be wasting much time and effort.

Our customers come back to us time and time again because we have our own very individual identity and unique working systems, it took years of hard work to create it, we offer unbeatable service and workmanship and we never let our standards slip, in fact we guarantee everything we do.

So if you do see those words ” THE BEST CLEAN EVER OR IT’S FREE “, think twice before jumping in head first and hiring them, they may have very little in the field experience, in fact they may have none at all, yes it is true, we have seen it with our own eyes. They are simply trying to copy a marketing system that worked for a few others at some point to get rich quick. Well sorry but there ain’t no free lunch in this game.

The best clean ever or it’s free??? as far as we are concerned, that goes without, saying (in big black capital letters, underlined on a bright yellow or pink flyer ), it should be free if it’s not the best clean ever, shouldn’t it???

Even Anthea Turner would agree!

Can Berber Carpets be cleaned? http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/25/can-berber-carpets-be-cleaned/ http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/25/can-berber-carpets-be-cleaned/#comments Fri, 25 Jul 2008 19:26:33 +0000 Administrator http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/25/can-berber-carpets-be-cleaned/ If you are the proud owner of a wool berber this might interest you

We get asked this question all the time, it even seems many ‘professional cleaners’ can shy away from these, worried that something terrible might happen. The answer of course is yes!

Of course they do have a looped pile and a tight weave to them, so this can make stain removal particularly tricky, they also tend to retain a little more moisture than other types of carpet.

There are a few problems associated with these carpets such as fuzzing, longer dry times etc, all of which your carpet cleaning specialist should be well aware of, and able to proceed without complication.

We would advise that you do not try to clean this kind of carpet unless you really do know what you are doing, you don’t need to be a genius but a certain technique and a little knowledge are required to avoid problems.

Vomit stains on carpets. http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/16/vomit-stains-on-carpets/ http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/16/vomit-stains-on-carpets/#comments Wed, 16 Jul 2008 18:03:29 +0000 Administrator http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/16/vomit-stains-on-carpets/ Vomit staining on carpet scan be very tricky to remove because

it depends what was in the persons gut to begin with! Today one of our technicians was called to remove a vomit stain and the odour from the vomit which had been hanging around for quite a few days.

The customer had rather too much to drink one evening and had been ill all along the side of his bed, he had tried to clean it up as best he could but the odour was getting progressively worse to the point that he had moved bedrooms as he could stand the smell no longer!

Of course simple extraction with fresh water was the first thing to do, basically to remove as much of the mess he had left behind by cleaning it up with washing up liquid of all things. Then we treated the the orange staining that was remaining on his beige wool carpet from the initial first point of contact so to speak, or the ‘nucleus of the stain’ this was very succesful, then it was just a matter of making sure no odour returned, which we did, another happy customer.

He did ask what he could have done so as not to of made the matter worse, we told him that to begin with he could of tried to remove as much vomit from his carpet as possible, perhaps by using a spoon, rather than rubbing it in as he had done, then he should have rinsed the carpet with fresh water, being careful to not overwet the area, and to use a blotting action as he worked on the stain. Once the area was dry, he could of sprinkled some bicarbonate of soda over the area and left it to dwell overnight before vacuuming away, this would help reduce the bad odour.

Apparantly he has another night out planned for Friday, i wonder if he will be calling us again soon, or if he has stocked up on the bicarbonate of soda instead.

Cleaning and care for oriental rugs. http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/15/cleaning-and-care-for-oriental-rugs/ http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/15/cleaning-and-care-for-oriental-rugs/#comments Tue, 15 Jul 2008 18:36:06 +0000 Administrator http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/15/cleaning-and-care-for-oriental-rugs/ Oriental rugs, beautiful area rugs should be cared for

by a carpet and upholstery cleaning specialist, there are many different fibres used in these rugs from many different origins, so professional cleaning off premises is always advised.

There are however a few things you can do yourself in order to keep your rug in the best possible condition.

Firstly if you spill something, mop it up immediately, use a clean white cloth or a few tissues, place it over the spillage and stand on it to absorb as much up as possible. If you plan on using your own carpet cleaning machine, although we advise against it, always use cold water, hot water can damage some fibres, so be careful.

Vacuum your rug regularly, on both sides!

Have your rug professionally cleaned on a regular basis, approximately every 2 years or so for low traffic areas, and once they have been cleaned, ask for them to have a stain shield applied afterwards. This will help you clean up stains far more easily and minimise the damage some deposits can cause.

Carpet cleaning associations, what do they really mean? http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/15/carpet-cleaning-associations-what-do-they-really-mean/ http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/15/carpet-cleaning-associations-what-do-they-really-mean/#comments Tue, 15 Jul 2008 18:20:57 +0000 Administrator http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/15/carpet-cleaning-associations-what-do-they-really-mean/ One of our technicians was asked this question today, he was also asked why MASTERCLEAN ® being such a well established company were not members of a particular ‘association’ which for the purpose of this article will remain nameless, but needless to say, if you are reading this article with interest you will know which ‘associations’ our customer was referring to.

The reason this particular client asked this question was because he had called us in to put right what one of the ‘associations’ members had done.
Unfortunately his carpets had been left sopping wet for nearly 3 days, fortunately they were well fitted and no shrinkage had occured, but once dry they still looked almost as dirty as before they had been cleaned. He was quite upset as you can imagine, especially as he thought he was doing the right thing by hiring a member of the said ‘association’.

He did contact the tradesman in question and was told in a round about way what to do with his complaint, not very satisfactory at all.
We told the client that he should complain to the ‘association’ that this tradesman belonged to, which he tried to do, but to no avail. A scenario that over our many years of trading seems to occur time and time again.

This is when he turned to us, we re-cleaned the carpets in question and made sure they would be dry in a matter of a couple of hours rather than days, and the client was very satisfied with the job done.

In amongst all this is when our technician was asked the question, his response was simply this, MASTERCLEAN ® has been in business for more than 20 years and is the most highly recommended upholstery, curtain and carpet cleaning specialists in Cornwall, Devon, Somerset, Dorset, and beyond, all our upholstery and carpet cleaners are trained by MASTERCLEAN ® to the highest standards, not given a 2 day course and a test thats not worth the paper it’s written on, then let loose on the consumer who of course is completely unaware of what is really going on behind the scenes in the carpet and upholstery cleaning world.

Of course all non-members are aware of these problems with being ‘associated’ and indeed there are many more reasons why some of the best carpet cleaners in Britain choose not to join. Ourselves and many other non-recipricators are also aware that these associations do actually do some good, but their practices in recent years has created an undesirable situation purely for financial gain, Masterclean ® and many other excellent professionals across the country disagree with these practices.

The client responded by saying that the ‘associations’ logo’s were on all the traders stationary even on the side of his van, he even told the client not to trust any company who was not a member, as they would not be qualified enough to do the job properly.

Our techinician apparantly burst out laughing and told the client that as he has seen by the job we have done, this mans statements were totally untrue. He went on to explain that the ‘associations’ members and that includes there associate members have to pay a fee each year in order to stay a member, and from this they benefit from national advertising campaigns, being able to use the associations logos on their vans and stationary, but they do not actually regulate the work that is going on across the country by these so called ‘experts’ they seem to be producing by the hundreds each year.

Somebody is doing very well, thank you very much from all the renewed memberships each year, but the poor cleaners are like lambs to the slaughter, with very little initial experience in the field, questionable knowledge of what they are actually doing, and worst still no idea of running a succesful enterprise. So after purchasing thousands of pounds worth of equipment on the recommendation of these ‘associations’ they are left with a huge deficit, they need turnover and quick, so you will find many of them are new start ups and also charging ridiculously low prices, this usually means a poor job, if your lucky, or disaster if you are unlucky.

This is why MASTERCLEAN ® and many other reputable, experienced honest, trustworthy carpet cleaning companies, amongst many other reasons, beyond the scope of this particular article are not members of any carpet cleaning ‘association’ and whats more we will never be any part of a national body that runs itself in this improper manner.

The client was quite astonished at the explanation, but thankful that now all had been made very clear to him, he told our cleaner that the next time he had any kind of job done in his home that he would get a recommendation from his friends and neighbours first.

So in answer to, what do these associations really mean? In the words of our technician, it means that the person they are hiring has the most basic training and understanding required to clean upholstery and carpets, and thats it, it does not guarantee a good job, or good customer service.

We agree.

Should i try to clean my own carpets and upholstery? http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/14/should-i-try-to-clean-my-own-carpets-and-upholstery/ http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/14/should-i-try-to-clean-my-own-carpets-and-upholstery/#comments Mon, 14 Jul 2008 16:23:02 +0000 Administrator http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/14/should-i-try-to-clean-my-own-carpets-and-upholstery/ The correct answer to this is ‘No’ but have you recently had a quote from a carpet cleaning professional? and thought wow!!!

that is one hell of a price just to clean a carpet or suite of furniture. The next stage to this scenario is often, ok, then i’ll clean it myself. So with the best of intentions you go and hire out your local rent a carpet cleaning machine for a said amount, then you have to purchase the cleaner to go along with it, it’s your fuel your using to go and pick it up and deliver it back, and you only have it for a certain period of time, people tend to forget these things.

We have heard and seen the outcome on soooooooo many occasions. Now granted, on some types of carpeting you can and will get away with it, on upholstery, well, we just would not recommend it, and for the most part, you really should leave the job to a professional.

Why?? we here you ask.

Lots of reasons, and here are just a few, firstly professional upholstery and carpet cleaners exist for a reason!! think about it. The machines you rent are terribly under powered, and leave a great deal of the water they put down behind, we have heard of peoples furnishing taking a week to dry. There are many different fabrics and fibres available, all of which should be cleaned in a particular manner, using the correct solution specifically designed for that fibre.
A good professional carpet and upholstery cleaner will clean safely, without leaving soil attracting residues behind.

A professional cleaner will/should have many different solutions and techniques at his diposal in order to give a good, fast drying result, regardless of the fabric or fibre he/she is being asked to treat. So many people make the mistake of not getting the job done properly. In general that means you will be involved in expelling a great deal of energy for very little initial gain, cleaning carpet and upholstery is pretty hard work, as many have found out, especially if you do it the wrong way to begin with. We would go as far as to say, simply this, don’t waiste your money.

Then there is the damage you do, some you can see and some won’t become apparent until a little further down the line, soaking wet carpets etc will lead to the groath of mould etc, not healthy at all. You may think, after you have finished that the result wasn’t all that bad, but then a few months later, whilst looking at the carpets or upholstery you cleaned, you realise it doesn’t look quite right, a bit tired maybe, dull, generally unwell, then a month or so after this it looks dirtier than before you cleaned it and you can’t quite figure out why???

Well we know why, it’s because you should have had the job done properly to begin with, there is a definate art and science to cleaning most upholstery and carpets, and to be honest there are alot of so called professionals that are not that great at it either!!!
Our advice is each to his own. you would not take your car to the butchers for a service, so find yourself a dedicated upholstery and carpet cleaning professional with experience and knowledge of in the field cleaning and stick with them, get the job done properly every 12 to 24 months and get the most from your upholstery and carpets, they will last for many years longer, giving many years more good service if looked after and cleaned regularly in the correct manner. When you way up the pro’s and con’s of do it yourself carpet cleaning and professional carpet cleaning there really isn’t a question to be aswered.

garlic fingers and hands, if you’ve had to peel and chop alot of garlic the odour can linger on your hands for ages. Next time this happens to you, wash your hands and dry them thoroughly, then rub ordinary table salt into your hands, the odour will disappear as quickly as it came.

Removing adhesive residue from carpets http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/13/removing-adhesive-residue-from-carpets/ http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/13/removing-adhesive-residue-from-carpets/#comments Sun, 13 Jul 2008 22:29:39 +0000 Administrator http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/13/removing-adhesive-residue-from-carpets/ We were called to a premises in upmarket Westhill recently, builders had been working, and they had taped !!! yes taped, their dust sheets to the brand new carpet.

Of course when they had finished they pulled up the tape and dust sheets and all looked well.
After a short period, only 2 weeks or so, the sticky residue that had been left behind had attracted all kinds of dirt and residue leaving a metre long by 4 inch streak across the clients brand new 80/20 beige wool carpet, right in the entrance hall.

We were confronted by a few problems here, firstly the carpet was new, so very little aggitation could be used, because you would leave the pile looking different from the rest of the carpet, it was in a high traffic area so if we did not get rid of it completely, most certainly it would return quickly. The buliders used very strong adhesive tape, as the carpet had actually gone hard from the glue left behind.

So we applied MASTERCLEAN’s ® detergent free special spot and stain remover and slowly but lightly worked in small circles with a microfibre cloth, using just enough pressure to loosen the residue and sticky deposits, we then followed that up by extracting everything out, carefully.

On initial inspection it all looked great, the client was happy and we carried on with our day.
The next day the said client called the office to say a small area of stain was still present and could we return to take a look.
So 30 minutes after the clients call to head office our technician was back with him, and sure enough a small area had not quite been removed completely, the cleaner put it down to the carpet going much darker when extracted with fresh water.

They re-treated the area, and now all is well. One very lucky builders neck now off the chopping block!!!!

Just remember if in doubt always call a professional, what may seem a simple task can have many hidden hazards, luckily another tradesman working at the premises recommended the client called Masterclean ® before he touched it, we dread to think what might have happened if he hadn’t!!!

to easily remove all that grease and oil from your hands, poor some sugar onto them and rub your hands together whilst washing them under the tap, alternatively, washing powder works really well too, the abrasive qualitiies of the two help to remove the ingrained oil and grease while the tap water rinses the loosened oil away.

How to make eco-friendly non toxic odour digesters. http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/10/how-to-make-eco-friendly-non-toxic-odour-digesters/ http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/10/how-to-make-eco-friendly-non-toxic-odour-digesters/#comments Thu, 10 Jul 2008 14:36:19 +0000 Administrator http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/10/how-to-make-eco-friendly-non-toxic-odour-digesters/ How To Make Eco-Friendly Non-Toxic Air Fresheners

Next time you take out your air freshner take a look at whats in it, full of harmful stuff, harmful for you and your environment. So here is a quick really great tip for making your own eco/non toxic freshners that really work.

You will need the following:

Plastic Spray Bottle
Vanilla Extract
Distilled White Vinegar
Baking Soda

To begin with place a ¼ of a cup of baking soda into a spray bottle and fill it up with water. Baking soda naturally digests odours and will destroy bad odours rather than just masking them for a while. Then add a couple of drops of Vanilla extract, this will give a pleasant scent to your spray.

Or you can pour distilled white vinegar into your spray bottle. White distilled vinegar is really effective and inexpensive, it’s very safe also. All you need to do is lightly mist the vineager into the air or your surfaces and it will naturally destroy bad odours in no time at all, the vinegar smell will disappear leaving your environment fresh and free from bad odours.

Never rub or scrub your carpet or upholstery. http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/10/never-rub-or-scrub-your-carpet-or-upholstery/ http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/10/never-rub-or-scrub-your-carpet-or-upholstery/#comments Thu, 10 Jul 2008 13:50:50 +0000 Administrator http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/10/never-rub-or-scrub-your-carpet-or-upholstery/ This is a simple tip but remember to never

rub or scrub your carpets when trying trying to remove stains. You should always use a blotting action and work from the outside in.

Whatever the stain remover is that you are using, always pre-test in an inconspicuous area first and then proceed with caution, add your spot remover to your spotting cloth rather than directly to your stain, you can always add if you need more, but you cannot take away!!!

Blot up all excess as thoroughly as possible, on upholstery fabrics like cotton, when treating small areas, dry them out ,’ GENTLY ‘ with a hair dryer on cool, or at a good distance.

We have to say that the last 20 years or so has been very challenging and extremely hard work, from our loyal, oh so hard working cleaning technicians, to the girls looking after the 10 booking lines in our crazy offices, to Melanie and her team of domestic cleaners, Sue for all her hard work in customer services, Phil for being the best boss in the world, did i just say that! right down to little gemma for making a great cup of tea, they have all worked so hard and continue to do so.

But none of it would have been possible unless we had you, our loyal, wonderful customers, without you we would not have such a great, busy, business, a business to be truly proud of.

We thank you all very much for all the wonderful recommendations you continually supply us with, whenever any of us are having a tough day it can be really uplifting to read through some of them, just to remind ourselves why we work so hard, and how we do things, is the way it should be done, ‘You won’t find better service and workmanship, or your money back’ is not an easy slogan to live up to, but as you all keep telling us, we do it extremely well. So thank you again for all your words of recommendation and encouragement.

Over the years we have seen many carpet and upholstery cleaning companies in Devon come
and go, and there are many reasons for that. When we first started out on this venture we wondered if we may fall by the way side as others have, fortunately we learned quickly that customers are not stupid, they know when they are receiving their monies worth, great service and workmanship is so very hard to come by these days, we learnt very early on that we must listen to you, to discover exactly what it is you expect, and of course, deserve.

We will continue to serve you the only way we know how, to the absolute best of our abilities, as we always have, as a customer said to me the other day whilst i was having a moment of weakness, ” they don’t call you Devon’s best carpet cleaners for nothing you know ” and i suppose she was right, so until you, our customers stop telling us we are the best at what we do, we will continue to do what we do better than anyone else.

A HUGE THANK YOU FROM Dianne and all of us at Masterclean ®

Removing cigarettee odours from your car or anywhere! http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/08/removing-cigarettee-odours-from-your-car-or-anywhere/ http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/08/removing-cigarettee-odours-from-your-car-or-anywhere/#comments Tue, 08 Jul 2008 16:32:29 +0000 Administrator http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/08/removing-cigarettee-odours-from-your-car-or-anywhere/ This is a great tip for those nasty cigarette odours!

Forget using conventional sprays that irritate your breathing, for your car, get 2 small plastic tubs, about 8 inches square and 4 inches deep, anything you can find will do, now soak 2 towels in white vinegar and place them in your tubs. Put the tubs with the towels in your vehicle, one beside the ash tray and one in the back, leave over night.

When you return all those horrible smokey odours will be gone. This will work anywhere, just add more tubs depending on the size of the room with the odours.

How to keep your mattress clean and healthy. http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/08/how-to-keep-your-mattress-clean-and-healthy/ http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/08/how-to-keep-your-mattress-clean-and-healthy/#comments Tue, 08 Jul 2008 08:23:01 +0000 Administrator http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/08/how-to-keep-your-mattress-clean-and-healthy/ We spend over 30 percent of our lives sleeping, so it makes sense to keep your mattress clean and healthy if you’re going to spend a third of your life laying on it.

Maintenence cleaning is what it’s all about when it comes to a clean and healthy mattress if you want to keep it fresh and clean over a long period of time.
Any accidents that happen should be attended to immediately to prolong the long life of the mattress.

You should be turning your mattress every 6 to 8 weeks, and each time you do vacuum both sides and edges thoroughly,
you will be vacuuming away all those nasty dust mites that cause all the problems associated with a mattress ie. allergies and stale unpleasent smells and odour.

Use a mattress liner, and a few sheets between you and your bedding, this will keep your mattress smelling as fresh as it was when new.
Any accidents that occur, for example urine, place a thick towel over the area and stand on it, try to absorb as much up as possible, you can then spray and enzymatic cleaner or better still an eco-friendly odour remover onto the area and repeat the process with a clean towel.

Finally, sprinkle baking soda over the treated area, this will help absorb remaining moisture and eliminate any lasting odours. You should leave the baking soda to dwell for as long as possible, perhaps over night or longer before vacuuming it away.

We believe everyone should have their mattress professionaly cleaned once a year, or more if you are an allergy sufferer. This will help to keep your sleeping environment clean and healthy.

Simple but effective! http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/07/simple-but-effective/ http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/07/simple-but-effective/#comments Mon, 07 Jul 2008 16:17:05 +0000 Administrator http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/07/simple-but-effective/ Here is a simple but very effective tip to help keep your carpets looking good

Always use doormats at the major entrances to your home, and make sure they are good quality ones too, we recommend heavy duty coir entrance mats, they do their job well and you won’t need to replace them for a long time.

Any time there is a transition from a hard surface to a carpeted floor in your home it is a good idea to place a mat there also, they will greatly reduce the amount of soil that gets taken onto the carpet over a period of time.

As we said, simple, but effective!

Some tips for keeping your carpets in tip top condition. http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/07/some-tips-for-keeping-your-carpets-in-tip-top-condition/ http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/07/some-tips-for-keeping-your-carpets-in-tip-top-condition/#comments Mon, 07 Jul 2008 16:05:23 +0000 Administrator http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/07/some-tips-for-keeping-your-carpets-in-tip-top-condition/ 1… Remove stains as soon as they occur, the longer you leave them there the harder it will become to remove.

2…You should be having your carpets professionaly cleaned every 12 to 18 months, oily residues on your carpets will attract more dirt than normal, your carpets will wear out more quickly if they are not cleaned regularly.

3…Vacuum thoroughly and frequently. Pull all that damaging dry soil out before it becomes ground in.

4…Always test any spot and stain removers in a inconspicuous place first before proceeding, try to stay clear of foaming, detergent products you can purchase over the counter at hardware shops etc, they mainly only do more damage and leave horrific amounts of foam and detergent residue behind or worse.

5…Don’t use heavy high alkaline detergents to clean your carpets, they leave harmful residues behind unless preventative measures are taken, your carpet will re-soil quickly and probably look worse than when you started.

6… Remember not all carpets are the same, and some need to be treated differently from others, if in any doubt about spot or stain treatments always seek professional advice first.

7…Try to use non-detergent spot and stain removers on your carpets, they are non-resoiling and much safer for you to use.

you could try gently sprinkling baking soda over the fabric allow it to dwell for a 2 to 4 hours and then vacuum it away. We have heard of some people wiping the fabric down with a damp sponge and vinegar, but we would not advise this, if the baking soda doesn’t work, call a professional.

Cleaning pet stains!!! http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/06/cleaning-pet-stains/ http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/06/cleaning-pet-stains/#comments Sun, 06 Jul 2008 13:25:34 +0000 Administrator http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/06/cleaning-pet-stains/ Pets and animals in British households is at an all time high. As a professional carpet cleaning company of over twenty years, we frequently see carpet stains from pet urine and faeces. These stains are often very damaging. So here are a few tips on cleaning up these kinds of stains and preventing them from damaging your carpets.

Blot pet urine up with a very absorbent towel. Press the towel into the stain with your heel. You need to soak up as much urine as possible from the backing as well as from the surface fibers. Using a fresh towel each time, do this about four times or until you are not seeing any more transfer to your towel.

Once you have blotted up as much of the urine urine as you can, spray the spot with a solution of white vinegar and water. Mix it up to a 50 % water 50% white vinegar consistency. You need to let the solution dwell in the carpet to neutralize the acid in the urine. By allowing a good dwell time you will be preventing the urine from discolouring the carpet fibres.

Do not rub on the carpet when treating pet urine or any kind of stain, as this will only push the stain deeper into the carpet and backing.

Now the dreaded number two. Wait for the pooh to dry completely! Don’t even think about cleaning it up, we know that goes against the grain, but trust us we know what we are doing. LET IT DRY! If you try to clean it while the stool is so fresh, you will create one hec of a mess and the carpet fibres will absorb the stool and could discolour your carpet forever.

Now a quick warning, this process may take up to 24 hours but after this ‘drying’ of the stool you will be able to easily pick it up with a plastic bag as protection for your hand and discard it to your bin. Then call a professional to remove what is left on your carpet.

Hopefully the professional you call will know what he is doing, firstly he should only use fresh clean water to extract the residue, no detergents are needed yet. If after this any residue is remaining he can use either a non detergent cleaner or mild detergent to gently treat the stain before extracting with a natural rinse to finish.

Once the stain has been completely removed, we recommend applying an eco-friendly safe odour neutraliser and sanitiser to kill any remaining germs or bacteria.

Vacuum your carpets regularly. http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/06/vacuum-your-carpets-regularly/ http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/06/vacuum-your-carpets-regularly/#comments Sun, 06 Jul 2008 12:56:13 +0000 Administrator http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/06/vacuum-your-carpets-regularly/ We strongly believe that 85 % or more of the dirt which builds up in carpets is dry soil. In fact the first thing you should do before thoroughly cleaning a carpet, by whatever method, is vacuum, then do it again for good measure.

The constant traffic that some carpets receive means all those small dust and dirt particles get ground down into your carpets pile, and when you begin to see what we call the traffic lane appear, you really do have a problem for a professional carpet cleaner to sought out.

More frequent vacuuming will help remove these harmful particles and prevent the build up that cause traffic lanes on your carpets. For rooms that only have light traffic, try to vacuum the traffic lanes twice weekly, and the rest of the room once weekly.

For the rooms which take the heavier traffic, we believe you should be vacuuming the traffic lanes every day and then the rest of the room twice per week.

In heavily soiled areas or the traffic lanes make about six or seven passes of the vacuum cleaner in different directions for the best results, two or three passes will suffice for the rest of the room.

As for the best vacuum to use, we recommend an upright with rotating brush system, but be aware that these are not suitable for all kinds of carpeting, if you have a berber style or thick looped pile constructed carpet these uprights can cause ‘fuzzing’ which is most undesirable. For these loop piled carpets we recommend a suction only vacuum.

Treating stains and spot cleaning. http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/06/treating-stains-and-spot-cleaning/ http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/06/treating-stains-and-spot-cleaning/#comments Sun, 06 Jul 2008 12:05:02 +0000 Administrator http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/06/treating-stains-and-spot-cleaning/ At some point in time, we realise that everyone has a go at spot cleaning their carpets, sometimes of course it is through necessity, other times just because the sun eventually begins shining through your windows allowing you to see what a mess certain areas of your carpets have become.

Now the first thing to remember if you have an accident or a spillage is DONT PANIC. Easier said than done, we know, but keep a cool head.
The first thing you should do if it is a fluid based spillage is get a thick towel and place it over the stain to absorb as much of the solution as possible. Then take a look at what is remaining, before you go to your kitchen sink and look in the cupboard for the latest oxy this or mousse that or 1000 and whatever, THINK, and try just plain old H20, thats water to you and me, and it should be cold water, with nothing else mixed in with it.

Put a clean towel under the tap and get it nice and wet, wring it out just a little. Take this to your stain and wring some cold water onto the stain, then with another clean dry towel blot up any excess from the stain, repeat this process until you see no more improvement.

Now at this point, if your stain looks like it still needs treatment, pick up the phone and call a professional, tell them what has been spilt, and what you have done. If he knows his stuff, he will tell you well done for doing the right thing. He knows he now has a far better chance of removing your stain.

This simple process goes for dry soil accidents too, like mud or any dry debris, except you should scrape or vacuum off as much loose soil first.

Just remember, to never, never use, the latest oxy this or that, or sticky goo mousse on your carpets and furnishings, all you are doing is creating another problem.

Non detergent spot and stain removers are the way to go for most water cleanable fabrics and fibres.

Your professional upholstery and carpet cleaning professional will be able to advise you on how to obtain these.

How to eliminate certain household odours. http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/04/how-to-eliminate-certain-household-odours/ http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/04/how-to-eliminate-certain-household-odours/#comments Fri, 04 Jul 2008 19:18:00 +0000 Administrator http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/04/how-to-eliminate-certain-household-odours/ The best way to eliminate odours is of course to prevent them from occuring in the first place. Invest in good, strong rubbish bags and don’t overfill them. Use a smaller rubbish bin in the kitchen can help because you will need to empty it more often. Stay on top of mildew in the bathroom by getting a shower spray bottle, fill it with a tablespoon of bleach mixed with water to spray down the walls of your shower after every use.

What should you use? and where should you use it? In the bathroom, grapefruit, lemon or orange cleaners tend to work really well, even real lemons can do a great job in breaking down the bacteria causing smells around the kitchen, bathroom or toilet, bath and shower etc. Bleach is still the best disinfectant in our opinion and most people associate things being really clean with the strong smell of chlorine. As stated previously using lemons to eliminate odours and clean the kitchen or orange based citric cleaners is a good idea, floral scent for the cigarette odour in your vehicle, for pet stains, urine, faeces, vomit and the like we recommend eco-friendly safe odour neutralisers.

These odour neutralisers work great on carpets, upholstery and curtains etc. But for general cleaning of spots and stains, try detergent free eco-friendly spot and stain removers, they work amazingly well on a very wide spectrum of spots and stains.

“But my carpets and furnishings don’t look dirty” http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/04/but-my-carpets-and-furnishings-dont-look-dirty/ http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/04/but-my-carpets-and-furnishings-dont-look-dirty/#comments Fri, 04 Jul 2008 18:13:14 +0000 Administrator http://mastercleanuk.biz/blog/2008/07/04/but-my-carpets-and-furnishings-dont-look-dirty/ We should all regularly be cleaning our Carpets & Upholstery.

Even if you don’t think your carpets and furnishings need to be
thoroughly cleaned, they do. But why we here you ask?

Here are a few reasons why…..

On average there are over two million
dust mites feeding on dead skin scales in every home! They hide in
your carpets, upholstery, rugs, mattress and pillows.
Mites can double their numbers in ten hours and produce ten to
twenty pieces of faeces per day. A gram of house dust
(approximately half a teaspoon) contains as many as 1,000 dust
mite, that same gram of dust mite can hold 250,000 of their faecal
pellets.
The development of the house dust mite from an egg to an adult
takes just three to four weeks. Adults live for about six weeks
during which time the females produce forty to eighty eggs.
Dust mites survive by eating dead skin cells, which make up to 80%
of house dust. They also live off water vapour, which we provide for
them through perspiring and breathing, approximately one pint per
person per night.

House dust mite are found in virtually all homes, no
matter how clean.

Asthma, eczema and allergic rhinitis are the three main
allergic diseases where the cause of most attacks has
been linked to the house dust mite allergen.
Over the past twenty years or so allergies such as
asthma have been causing more and more of us to
experience those uncomfortable symptoms of allergen
sensitivity.
The facts are, clean every six to eighteen months
before traffic lanes begin to appear, your carpets and
furnishings will last far longer and look much better,
any build up of allergens that cause asthma and/or
respiratory and allergic problems get removed so you
will breathe easier too. If you or a loved one are suffering
from any of these symptoms Masterclean ® operatives
come prepared with the latest anti-allergy treatments to
keep your home dust-mite free for over twelve months

Each day Masterclean ® pull pounds and pounds of sandy soil out of the base of carpets and furnishings. It’s in yours too!
Oily residues from the street and the air get deposited in your carpets and onto your upholstery every day. These
sticky residues attract other types of dirt onto your furnishings. They bond to fibres and fabrics
through a process called oxidisation becoming permanently attached causing colour and texture
change.
The longer you wait between cleans the more likely it is that these soils will become impossible to remove causing
permanent damage to your carpets and furnishings.
We hope this article has made you think about just how dirty your soft furnishings really are!
