Another Almighty Blunder Found In Exeter!!!

Today one of our technicians came across a terrible mistake whilst working. On arrival at his first customers house in Exwick, Exeter whilst inspecting the large lounge and hall stairs and landing he had to clean he noticed something sticking out from underneath the legs of a large dining table at the far side of the lounge used as a dining area.

On closer inspection it turned out to be pieces of bright pink coloured plastic bag that had been placed underneath the large block wooden feet of the dining table.

Of course he asked the customer what they were doing there, and recieved the reply that the previous carpet cleaner had put them there to protect the carpet!!!

Now we agree that some furniture needs to have protective pads placed under the feet in order to prevent wood stain marks transfering to the carpet fibres or rust marks appearing from metal feet or metal studs. Some furniture should be raised on Polystyrene blocks to aid drying etc.

But the article of furniture was not wood stained, and it did’nt have metal studs on the feet, in fact the feet were plastic.

So it was completely unecessary to do what he had done. But that is not where this story ends.

The carpet had not been cleaned for over a year, so the dining table with it’s large 4 inch square legs had been standing on the pink plastic bag cut offs for all this time, when our technician lifted the bits of bag, the pink die from the bag had transfered on to the carpet fibres leaving 4 inch square permanent pink patches.

He tried several different ways to remove or at least improve them but with limited success.
Apparantly this job had been carried out by a so called professional from the local area boasting membership of this and that association and posessing cleaning diplomas and the like.

Well if the so called professional is reading this, and recognises the pink bag part of this true story then, SHAME ON YOU, YOU HAVE RUINED A 22 X 16 FEET WHITE WOOL CARPET AND GOT AWAY WITH IT. Of course our client was very upset, but thought that too much time had past for them to complain about the mess.

So, if you are going to get your carpets cleaned make sure the firm you hire uses proper foil backed furniture pads or blocks designed for the job.

Or if you are attempting to clean your own carpets, you could use tin foil doubled over and cut into squares of the appropriate size and place them under the feet of wood stained or metal furniture, although we would prefer you to use the proper items, this will at least prevent a disaster.

But better still, just take the guess work out of it all and call the professionals. The most highly recommeded upholstery and carpet cleaners in Devon And Beyond, Guaranteed!
