Vomit stains on carpets.

it depends what was in the persons gut to begin with! Today one of our technicians was called to remove a vomit stain and the odour from the vomit which had been hanging around for quite a few days.
The customer had rather too much to drink one evening and had been ill all along the side of his bed, he had tried to clean it up as best he could but the odour was getting progressively worse to the point that he had moved bedrooms as he could stand the smell no longer!
Of course simple extraction with fresh water was the first thing to do, basically to remove as much of the mess he had left behind by cleaning it up with washing up liquid of all things. Then we treated the the orange staining that was remaining on his beige wool carpet from the initial first point of contact so to speak, or the ‘nucleus of the stain’ this was very succesful, then it was just a matter of making sure no odour returned, which we did, another happy customer.
He did ask what he could have done so as not to of made the matter worse, we told him that to begin with he could of tried to remove as much vomit from his carpet as possible, perhaps by using a spoon, rather than rubbing it in as he had done, then he should have rinsed the carpet with fresh water, being careful to not overwet the area, and to use a blotting action as he worked on the stain. Once the area was dry, he could of sprinkled some bicarbonate of soda over the area and left it to dwell overnight before vacuuming away, this would help reduce the bad odour.
Apparantly he has another night out planned for Friday, i wonder if he will be calling us again soon, or if he has stocked up on the bicarbonate of soda instead.
